South West of Vietnam is Con Son where the mountains meet the ocean. One of the 16 volcanic islands of the con dao archipelago. Vietnam made the Con Dao National park as part of a marine and land reserve in 1993. It has Vietnam’s most important sea turtle nesting sites, in 2020 the park saw the hatching and release of more than 170,000 baby turtles, you can watch nesting sea turtles lumber in from the ocean to lay their eggs on the beach during a guided overnight turtle watching tour. The views across the waves to the nearby island of Hon Ba are mesmerising, you can swim over colourful coral reefs while looking out for rays, parrotfish, hawksbill turtles and other marine life on a diving or snorkelling excursion.
